Alpaca Coat Development
The Alpaca Wool brought more challenges with it than I expected. First I fuised it, then I had to apply it by hand on organza which I then stitched on by machine. After that I secured some places, such as the sleeve cap or neckline area with additional organza. Another challenge was to work on details, because as soon as one cuts into the fabric its' curcial to not move it too much, otherwise it also falls apart. I decided to go with the welt pocket method used in mens' tailoring, because the welt looks a bit more substaintial which fits the looks of the coat. At first I was very disappointed by how it looked and the embroidered lapel, flap and collar felt a bit too traditional to me. This made me decide to instead with leather, since it has a bit more an elegant feel and with its' subtle shine it adds contrast to the wool. This then creates contrasts which is a bit more exciting for the eye.
