SCIENCE IN FASHION DESIGN

Based on my educational background that heavily relied on science, I naturally understand design from that perspective. When I think about design, I think about the scientific reason why specific shapes and colors evoke certain emotions in us. The feelings we experience when looking at designs are directly linked to how we experience the design´s shapes and colors in our everyday life. Everything that we notice around us in everyday life is defined by the physical properties and mathematical rules of this planet. Therefore, it is important to me to understand how these are applied to fashion design. For this project, I used mathematics, the golden ratio, origami, and platonic solids to analyze patterns. I borrowed mathematics as a tool to investigate classically constructed garments, which helped me see where mathematical principles are applied in classical fashion designs. Origami and the golden ratio are great inspirations for how to create unconventional shapes and proportions. Proportions are subtle, but they are essential to make a garment look beautiful and exciting.

Besides, I implied packaging into the patterns of my garments which I think should be the norm in the fashion industry not to waste additional material for packaging.
